Content Filter

Overview and Accessibility

The Content Filter Service is an advanced, optional feature provided by ShiningBot, available at an additional cost. This service gives organisations granular control over internet and network accessibility for their users.

Core Function: The service allows administrators to define precisely which content is accessible and which is prohibited across their network.

Comprehensive Categorisation System

ShiningBot utilizes a robust system of over 60 predefined categories to group and classify web content. These categories allow for easy, broad-stroke content policy definition.

These categories are logically grouped into six major umbrella classifications:

  • Security (e.g., Malware, Phishing)
  • Illegal Activity (e.g., Copyright Infringement, Hacking)
  • Adult Rated (e.g., Pornography, Mature Content)
  • Bandwidth Hogs (e.g., High-Bandwidth Streaming, Large Downloads)
  • Time Wasters (e.g., Social Media, Gaming)
  • General Sites (Includes various business or non-critical Sites)

Fine-Tuning with Override
(Whitelisting & Blacklisting)

While the category-based filter provides strong generalised protection, ShiningBot understands the need for specific, precise control.

URL Blacklisting: This feature allows you to prohibit access to specific web addresses (URLs) or domains, even if they belong to a generally permitted category.

URL Whitelisting: This feature allows you to grant access to specific web addresses (URLs) or domains, even if they fall under a category that has been broadly prohibited.

These Whitelisting and Blacklisting facilities allow administrators to override the category-based filtering service, enabling maximum flexibility and finely refining access policies to meet specific organisational needs.
